Colic

What is cramps?

Colic is intense and spasmodic pain which usually affect areas such as the abdomen or pelvis. They can be caused by multiple factors, from digestive problems to muscle or menstrual conditions. Although they are more common in women during their menstrual cycle and in newborn babies, anyone can experience them.

It is important to understand that colic is not a disease in itself, but a symptom of something else that's going on in the body.

Benefits of Chiropractic for Colic Care

Did you know that chiropractic doesn't just treat back and neck pain? It can also be a natural and effective solution to relieve cramps. The connection between chiropractic and cramps lies in the nervous system. When there is interference with the spine, the functioning of the nervous system can be affected, affecting digestion, blood flow and muscle function.

How Does Chiropractic Help With Colic?

  • Relieves nervous tension: Subluxations or imbalances in the spine can affect the nerves that control the abdomen and pelvis.
  • Improves circulation: An efficient nervous system promotes blood flow to affected organs.
  • Facilitates muscle relaxation: Chiropractic adjustments reduce tension in muscles, relieving spasms that cause pain.
  • Promotes healthy digestion: Especially useful in cases of intestinal colic or in babies with immature digestive systems.
  • Reduces inflammation: By treating the root of the problem, chiropractic can decrease the inflammation that causes the pain.

In the case of babies, specialized techniques such as Pediatric SOT and gentle adjustments have proven to be very effective in relieving cramps and improving your overall well-being.

Any questions?

Are menstrual cramps normal?

Yes, but if the pain is severe or interferes with your daily life, it could be a symptom of an underlying condition such as endometriosis or fibroids.

Is it safe to take a colicky baby to a chiropractor?

Of course. Chiropractors certified in pediatric techniques, such as SOT, use gentle and safe adjustments for little ones.

How long does colic in babies last?

They usually disappear around 3 to 4 months of age, although each baby is different.

What foods can cause cramps?

In adults, fatty, spicy, or gas-producing foods (such as legumes) can trigger them. In nursing babies, sometimes certain foods eaten by the mother can be factors.

Can Chiropractic Prevent Colic?

It doesn't necessarily prevent them, but with regular adjustments, the factors that trigger them can be significantly reduced.

When should I worry about colic?

If the pain is severe, lasts longer than a few hours, or is accompanied by fever, vomiting, or bleeding, seek immediate medical attention.
